CIOs have been guiding their organisations through a very difficult period over the past two years as the global pandemic and economic uncertainty in Australia and overseas due to geopolitical tensions and rising inflation impacts business operations.
Technology chiefs have answered the call, delivering technologies, often cloud-based solutions, that support new working environments for fast-changing workforces. Moreover, CIOs are being asked by their boards to play an even bigger role in driving business strategy.
2023 will be a challenging year for tech leaders that are looking to retire technology debt, build on innovations introduced during the pandemic, and secure their infrastructure to protect against potentially damaging cyber-attacks.

- How Northern Beaches is delivering a truly digital council(CIO Sit-Down) The Northern Beaches Council was formed in May 2016 following the amalgamation of Manly, Pittwater and Warringah Councils. Naren Gangavarapu joined the council in January 2020 as chief information and digital officer, and along with his team, he has delivered a post-merger digital and IT strategy that was recognised by the NSW Auditor General’s Office as leading the way in local government. Join Naren as he discusses how his team overcame the post-merger challenges of consolidating siloed systems and dealing with technology debt to create a truly digital council. He will discuss: How to digital transform a council: Optimisation versus transformation. Why focusing on customer and employee experience (CX and EX) was crucial to success. How artificial intelligence technologies are being used to deal with important cyber alerts in a market where cyber security specialists can be hard to find, as well as augment the council’s wellbeing program for staff.
