Kim Oosthuizen

Expert Advisor

Career

Dr Kim Oosthuizen is an enterprise AI executive, educator and advisor with more than 20 years of international experience spanning healthcare, insurance, retail and enterprise technology. She currently serves as Head of Artificial Intelligence for Bupa APAC, where she leads the enterprise AI transformation agenda across healthcare, insurance and corporate functions, including AI strategy, operating model design, governance, capability development and scaled adoption.

Kim brings extensive experience translating emerging technology into practical business transformation. At Bupa, she has led the development of an enterprise AI strategy and operating model, including a hub-and-spoke model and AI Factory designed to enable scalable AI delivery and governance. Her work focuses on embedding AI into core operations while balancing responsible adoption, organisational readiness, workforce capability and measurable customer, clinical and operational outcomes.

Previously, Kim was Head of Artificial Intelligence for SAP ANZ, where she worked with business and technology leaders across industries to identify AI opportunities, develop transformation roadmaps and enable adoption of AI capabilities. Her career also includes transformation and product leadership roles across retail and enterprise technology, giving her a strong understanding of the business processes, operating models and organisational foundations required to successfully introduce new technology.

Role at Factor

Kim brings a business-led perspective to enterprise AI, helping executives move beyond experimentation and understand what it takes to turn AI opportunity into scalable organisational capability. Her experience spans strategy, governance, operating models, workforce enablement and value realisation, making her particularly relevant to organisations moving from AI pilots towards enterprise-wide adoption.

Her advisory perspective is grounded in the practical realities of implementing AI in complex and regulated environments. Kim can help executive teams assess where AI can create meaningful value, how investment should be prioritised, what governance needs to be established and how organisations need to adapt their people, processes and operating models to support sustained adoption.

Through Factor, Kim is particularly well suited to executive advisory, research and peer-led discussions exploring the practical realities of AI transformation. She brings the ability to connect boardroom strategy with operational execution while challenging organisations to think critically about where AI genuinely creates value and where adoption risks becoming technology for technology's sake.

Key roles Kim works with include: CEOs, CIOs, CTOs, CDAOs, Chief AI Officers, Chief Digital Officers, Chief Transformation Officers, and Board & Executive Leaders.

Previous Roles

As Head of Artificial Intelligence at SAP ANZ, Kim led regional AI growth, customer adoption and enterprise AI transformation initiatives across multiple industries. She worked closely with technology and business leaders to identify AI opportunities, lead AI ideation workshops, develop transformation roadmaps and support organisations in adopting AI, machine learning, automation and data capabilities.

Earlier at SAP, Kim served as Innovation Principal for AI and Senior Global Consultant for Retail, supporting customers and partners with digital transformation, AI, machine learning, RPA, blockchain and data management capabilities. Her work combined technology enablement with business process transformation, customer requirements and scalable solution design.

At Super Retail Group, Kim served as Senior Product Owner, leading the merchandise transformation program and working across business and technology teams to evaluate solutions, prioritise initiatives and establish scalable technology capabilities. Her earlier career in retail transformation and merchandise planning across Edcon, Al Tayer Group and other organisations established a strong foundation in business process improvement, commercial decision-making and operational transformation.

Kim has also operated internationally across South Africa, the Middle East and Australia, giving her experience working across different organisational structures, markets and business environments. Alongside her executive career, she has maintained a strong connection to academia and executive education through teaching and curriculum development at leading business schools.

Media Presence and Industry Contributions

Kim is an experienced educator, published author and keynote speaker who brings academic research and practical enterprise experience together. She has contributed to Harvard Business Review and academic journals and regularly engages business leaders on the strategic implications of AI, emerging technology and the future of work.

Her academic background includes a PhD focused on integrating AI into the value chain and an MBA from Stellenbosch University. She has also taught AI and business strategy through business schools including Stellenbosch, Western Sydney University, Melbourne Business School, the University of Canterbury and Vlerick.

Kim's contribution to the AI conversation is grounded in practical enterprise adoption rather than technology hype. She brings experience across healthcare, insurance, retail and enterprise technology, allowing her to examine AI through the combined lenses of strategy, operating models, governance, workforce capability and business value.

Leadership Philosophy

Kim believes successful AI transformation begins with the business problem rather than the technology. Organisations need to understand where AI can create meaningful value, prioritise investment accordingly and build the organisational foundations required to move from isolated experiments to sustainable enterprise adoption.

She places equal importance on capability, governance and execution. Scaling AI requires more than access to models and platforms; organisations need the right operating model, decision frameworks, workforce capability and responsible governance to ensure AI can be deployed safely and effectively.

For Kim, the most valuable AI leadership sits at the intersection of ambition and practicality. Leaders need to understand what is possible while remaining disciplined about where AI should be deployed, how value will be measured and how organisations and their people need to evolve as AI becomes embedded into everyday work.
